My goodness, it seems something odd is happening.

[And Will, remembering the other boy's strange eyes - like Herne's eyes - and the words of the prophecy, feels a sudden sense of certainty.]

You are the Raven Boy. And the Pendragon.

[He hesitates, uncertain how to continue. For now he could not feel the path he needed to take. He was little more than human. It was strange, speaking to this boy who obviously knew him, without knowing so many things. How had they met? What was his task?]

Am I to be the Merlin to your Arthur, then?

[He tilts his head to the side, as if looking at something that Will cannot see, and then he flashes the other boy a smile, short and bright.]

You really don't change, Will Stanton, do you? [No, you won't get a real answer.] My name is Bran Davies.

I suppose I don't. [Will says calmly. He tilts his head and observes the other boy seriously.] And a pleasure it is to meet you, Bran Davies. Again and for the first time.

[Calmer, much more relaxed, though not inattentive] Can you tell me what this place is?

XD

I haven't been able to learn much. This world, Fortuna, was once filled with people much as our own world is. They had wars and culture and history, much as any country might have. But something happened, and a disease or a plague came to this world. One they could not fight. There are very few of the original inhabitants of this world left now.

Only the scientists, who built a machine to bring people from other worlds to rebuild this city, and the people of another country who attacked a few weeks ago.

...do you think that here, the Dark succeeded? [But if it did... Why were they brought here? To provide another chance? But this is not their world.]

It is possible, I think. I have met some, here, that claim to use power from darkness. And the Dark is here in the hearts of men, as it always is.

But I don't know for sure. [He continues miserably.] The scientists here, they have developed a way to block the powers of those they bring here. Even the nature of an Old One. I can feel nothing of the Dark nor of the will of the Light.

A test, maybe? [Like when they went to get the golden harp, only different.]

From: [identity profile] beyondimagining.livejournal.com
Perhaps. But if it is, it is unlike any test I have ever heard of.There have been no riddles and no puzzles. No actions to take and no one sitting in judgement. Of all I have spoken to here, only two have known of the Light. And neither knew of anything more.

...it makes no sense. [Suddenly, the frustration of a completely normal teenager. When he saw Will, he thought that he would find answers now, and he turned out to know nearly as little as himself. The moment of hope that flashed through his mind, that if there are different times here, maybe Cafall would be here, is gone now, too.]

No, it doesn't. [Will wished he had some answers to offer. But he had none. Only the wisdom of his kind, that waiting for the right moment to reveal itself was sometimes all you could do. But that would be cold comfort for a human, he knew.]

...you live in one of those buildings now?
From: [identity profile] beyondimagining.livejournal.com
A bit run down, I'm afraid. At the least, the room I'm staying in has electricity. Not all of the buildings in this city can claim that.

...Does it look like London?

It is a city. Not so large as London, I don't think. And much more run down. But much larger than Hunterscoombe or Trewessick.

How many people live here?

[The largest cities that he has ever been to is Tywyd and the places where the Eisteddfod took place, but that were only very short amounts of time.]

There are only 200 or so. But I think that there used to be many more. Of all the buildings in this city, only four apartment buildings are occupied.

If people come here from the future and past, could Cafall...

It is possible, I suppose. Though I have not seen many animals arrive here from other worlds.
